Why does "Update Bot's Computer" bounce back to the Update button?
Last checked October 29, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
In an October 2026 forum thread, staff said the update did actually run each time. The computer was rebuilt with files carried over, which takes a few minutes, and the app kept showing the Update button afterwards, a known issue. Do not keep pressing it. One attempt right after waking from sleep was skipped because files were not saved yet. If the computer still shows "Waking up…" or commands fail afterwards, the cause is something else.
What people saw
Pressing Update under Settings > Computer shows "Updating…" for a moment, then returns to the same page with Update available again and no error.
What staff said
For the user who reported it on October 28, 2026, staff replied that:
- Each press did run an update: the computer was rebuilt and the files carried over, taking a few minutes.
- The reappearing button is a known issue where the app keeps offering Update after one finished. Pressing it repeatedly is not needed.
- A try made just after the computer woke from sleep was skipped because its files were not saved yet. Nothing was changed by it.
- The "computer is asleep" note belongs to the Route traffic through this computer setting. It only means the computer was sleeping at that moment.
So what should I do?
- Press Update once, then wait several minutes.
- Ask a Bot to run a trivial command such as
echo ok. - If that works, ignore the button.
- If the computer still says "Computer is asleep" or "Waking up…" for hours, the update is not your problem. In the longer thread, a startup-file problem was behind one such case; see Why does every Grok Bot command hang for 840 seconds?. Otherwise report it with your ticket number.

Not tested by Boterly
We have not reproduced this on a live Bot. Everything above is staff's wording from the linked threads. The first thread was on Grok Bot 0.68.1 for macOS; behaviour may differ in other versions.
