Why did my Grok Bot computer lose days of files after an overnight reboot?
Last checked October 29, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
In a forum thread dated October 2, 2026, a user's Bot computer rebooted overnight and returned with files from about four days earlier. Staff said on October 29 that the user's own actions did not trigger it, the computer simply came back with an older file state, and the files from the lost window could not be recovered. There is currently no feature showing the last backup time. Staff's advice: keep scripts, skills and configs in a git repository pushed to an external remote.
What the user saw
After a reboot at about midnight ET on October 2, 2026, files under the Bot's workspace carried modified times from September 28, and everything created between September 29 and October 1 was gone: a watcher folder, a Python environment and a skill folder. Two Bots were affected, so it was machine-wide. Nobody had pressed Update or Reset.
What staff said
- The user's actions did not cause it, and the webhook URL change they asked about was unrelated.
- The computer came back up with an older file state instead of the latest one.
- Backups had not stopped on the earlier date that another thread described.
- The files from that window could not be recovered.
- No product feature shows the time of the last backup or warns before restoring an older copy. Both ideas were passed on.
This is one report with a staff reply, not proof of how often it happens.
What you can do
- Keep scripts, skills and configs in a git repository and push it to an external remote such as GitHub. Staff said this makes restoring a matter of minutes.
- Ask the Bot to commit and push after finishing real work.
- If you see a large rollback or newly created files vanish, post on the forum right away with the approximate time.
