How do I share my Grok Bot as a template?
Last checked October 28, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
Open the Bot's Share menu and choose Create template (older guides call it Share as Template). Review the details, choose Public link or Team-only, publish, then use Copy link. Remove API keys, internal URLs and customer data first, because a public link exposes the Bot's configuration. If publishing fails with "A team must be selected to share a team template", your account is likely still attached to an old team workspace; leave it, or ask support to remove it.
Steps
- Open the Bot and its Share menu → Create template.
- Choose View template details to see exactly which memories, skills, routines and integrations are included.
- Choose access: Public link or Team-only. Enterprise accounts default to Team-only; others default to Public link. Team and Enterprise admins can block public publishing.
- Publish, then Copy link. Use Update template after you change the Bot.
You can also ask the Bot in chat to create a template of itself.
What travels and what does not
Included: instructions, relevant memories, skills, routines, first-party plugins. Excluded: personal memories, custom code and scripts, private skills, secrets, and non-standard plugins such as MCP servers.
Before publishing publicly, remove API keys, internal URLs, customer data and anything you would not put in a public document.
"A team must be selected to share a team template"
Reported in September 2026 on personal plans. Staff traced it to accounts still attached to leftover team workspaces — old invite links, trials or cancelled teams with no seats. Fixes:
- Open your account dashboard and leave any team workspaces you still belong to.
- If none are visible, email support from your account address and ask them to remove leftover backend team memberships. Some users reported support could not clear these at first, so mention the forum thread.
Make it easy to install
Because imports have been dropping skills, publish the skill text and a short setup note with your link. A setup prompt is one way to share those instructions; recipients should verify the resulting setup.
