How do I stop Grok Bot from charging extra usage?
Last checked October 28, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
Set a spending cap on paid additional usage (a cap of $0 blocks paid spillover) and turn off Auto Top-up in your account settings. Note that referral or promo credits are spent before paid usage and a $0 cap does not protect them. Grok Bot does not warn you before it moves past the included pool, so check the weekly meter and pause heavy routines when it nears 100%.
What happens when the included pool runs out
Staff on the official forum confirmed the order (August 2026):
- Your included weekly pool.
- Any referral or promo credits on the account.
- Paid additional usage — only if it is enabled.
Grok Bot does not show a warning or confirmation when it crosses from step 1 into steps 2 or 3. Users found out from their billing page. Staff logged a feature request for a warning; there was no timeline as of late October 2026.
Controls you have today
- Spending cap. In your account's usage and billing settings, set a cap on paid additional usage. A cap of $0 stops paid spillover entirely.
- Auto Top-up. Turn it off if you do not want credits bought automatically.
- Watch the weekly meter. The Grok Bot app shows it. When you are near 100%, pause the routines that use the most.
What a $0 cap does not do: it does not stop promo or referral credits from being spent, because those come first. Staff corrected an earlier reply on exactly this point.
The controls are account-wide. There is no switch to limit Grok Bot alone to a particular pool.
"How much usage does $5 buy?"
There is no fixed conversion. Additional usage is billed on actual tokens per task, so $5 can cover many short tasks or a few long ones. If you want to learn your real cost per task, staff suggest enabling additional usage with a small cap and watching the spending page update in real time.
Do I need a second subscription to buy more?
No. Staff were explicit that buying a second plan just to get more Grok Bot usage does not stack pools. Extra usage is bought as credits on the same account.
Before you raise the cap
