Plugins and MCP servers that will not connect

Published October 26, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often

A plugin that is "connected" but useless looks like a Bot that is broken. Usually it is a stale or wrong authorization.

The standard checklist

  1. Open Connect apps from the sidebar and confirm the plugin is installed.
  2. Reopen its page and choose the authentication action.
  3. Sign in in the browser with the account you intend. Work versus personal matters.
  4. Return to Grok Bot and retry the task.
  5. Still connected-but-empty, or asking to authenticate again? Uninstall and reinstall.
  6. If you revoked access at the source (Google, X and so on), remove and re-add the plugin.
  7. On a work account, an IT admin may need to approve the app.

The canonical version is Why won't my plugin connect?

Known cases

X. In August 2026 the official plugin failed with "Something went wrong" or showed zero tools. What worked for some: update the app, disconnect the X account inside the plugin and sign in fresh, or reinstall. Public X search does not need the plugin; it is only for private data such as DMs and bookmarks.

Gmail. If authorizing from inside Grok Bot fails, authorize from Cursor instead. The connection is shared. Add more Google accounts with Add Another Account.

1Password. One login with a website address over 2,000 characters used to break the whole connection with "credential delivery method is unknown". Staff said it was fixed on October 20, 2026 and no app update is needed. See 1Password connector fails.

Microsoft. Outlook, Outlook Calendar and OneDrive are plugins. There is no Teams or SharePoint plugin, so use computer use for those. See Microsoft Outlook and Teams.

Custom MCP servers. These are a different path: remote servers only, OAuth only, no secret custom headers, no local stdio servers. If sign-in fails with redirect_uri not allowed, your server must accept the redirect. See Add a custom MCP server.

Credentials

If a site needs a login, take over the Bot's computer and sign in yourself. Do not paste passwords or one-time codes into chat. Your Bots share one browser session, so a sign-in made through one Bot is visible to the others. See A security checklist for Grok Bot.
