Why won't my Grok Bot plugin connect?
Last checked October 28, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
Open Connect apps, confirm the plugin is installed, reopen its page and choose the authenticate action, sign in with the intended account in the browser, then return and retry. If it shows connected but has no tools or keeps asking to authenticate, uninstall and reinstall it. Several 2026 failures were platform-side — the official X plugin OAuth and Gmail authorization from Grok Bot — and a few have a different workaround below.
The standard fix
- Open Connect apps from the sidebar, select the connected count, and confirm the plugin is installed.
- Reopen the plugin's page and choose its authentication action.
- Complete sign-in in the browser with the account you intend — work vs personal matters.
- Return to Grok Bot and retry the task.
- If the connection was revoked at the source (you removed access in Google, X, etc.), remove the plugin and add it again.
- Some connectors need an organization variable or admin approval. On a work account, your IT admin may need to allow the app.
Known cases
X plugin. In August 2026 the official X plugin repeatedly failed with "Something went wrong / failed to give the app access", or showed needsAuth with zero tools. Staff suggestions that worked for some: update the app, disconnect the X account inside the plugin and sign in fresh, or uninstall and reinstall the plugin. Note that public X search does not need the plugin at all; it is only for private data such as DMs, bookmarks and your home timeline.
Gmail. When Gmail authorization from inside Grok Bot failed, staff pointed out that authorizing Gmail from Cursor uses a different path and the connection is shared with Grok Bot. Once working, add more Google accounts from the Gmail plugin's page with Add Another Account.
1Password. A single saved login with a very long URL used to break the whole connection with a vague "delivery outcome is unknown" message. Staff said this was fixed in October 2026.
Custom MCP servers. Different problem — see How do I add a custom MCP server?
Never paste passwords
If a site needs a login, take over the Bot's computer and sign in yourself. Do not paste passwords or one-time codes into chat.
