Why does my cloud agent default keep switching back to Fast and 500K context?
Last checked October 29, 2026 · Grok Bot changes often
On October 29, 2026 staff said a saved cloud agent default (256K context, High, Fast off) was not being reset by updates. The Cursor iPhone app rewrites the saved default to Grok 4.7 High with Fast on when it loads its model list, replacing the dashboard choice. Cloud agents started afterwards, including ones Grok Bot launches, then run the Fast variant, which fits sudden usage jumps. Re-save the default, check it after opening the iPhone app, and tell Grok Bot which model to use when it launches an agent.
What was reported
A user kept their cloud agent defaults at 256K context, High effort, Fast off. Roughly every other week the dashboard showed 500K plus High and Fast again, noticed after usage spikes, once about 20% of their pool in an hour.
What staff found
- The dashboard setting was not reset by an update.
- If you use the Cursor app on iPhone, it rewrites your saved cloud agent default to Grok 4.7 High with Fast on when it loads its model list.
- Cloud agents started after that, including those launched by Grok Bot, run on the Fast variant.
- The finding was passed to the team; no fix date was given.
What to do
- Re-save your preferred default on the cloud agent settings dashboard.
- After you next open the iPhone app, look at the default again.
- Tell the Bot which model to use whenever it launches a cloud agent, for example in its instructions, so it does not fall back to the saved default.
- Watch your usage view for jumps; see Why does Grok Bot use up my weekly usage so fast? and How do I stop extra usage charges?.
Whether Grok Bot shares a pool with Cursor is covered in Does Grok Bot share usage with Cursor?.

We cannot confirm the iPhone behaviour ourselves; it is staff's explanation of one user's case. The "about every other week" timing is the user's observation.
